St Alban’s Ward Councillor Judith Holt has written to Havering Council and the police to request urgent action for improvements in cleanliness and security in the alleyway near Kingsmead Mansions at the end of Kingsmead Avenue, Romford, Essex, RM1 2JD, which runs behind the shops of Station Parade in Victoria Road and South Street.
She told the Havering Daily: ” I was contacted by the landlord and one of the residents of the flats in Kingsmead Mansions, telling me about the anti-social behaviour caused by individuals loitering in the alleyway,” said Councillor Holt.

“There has been drug-taking and other inappropriate activities happening directly in front of the main entrance of one block of Kingsmead Mansions and in the garden area by the wall. These individuals frequently create loud disturbances, day and night, disrupting the peace and causing anxiety for residents – which include families with children. The resident’s thirteen-year-old daughter, when returning home from school, is often scared to enter their property due to these people gathering by the gate.”

This alley, unfortunately, has long been a hotspot for over-flowing rubbish bins and fly-tipping – but, in recent months, the situation has got far worse. “There appear to be extra rubbish bins here- but, it seems as though these are being used an excuse not to clear the overflowing mess on to the ground,” added the Conservative Councillor for St. Alban’s Ward. “More than once, the Biffa bins have been left on the pavement, blocking access to the alleyway or to Brooke House next door.”

Councillor Holt has written to Havering Council requesting them to clear the mess as soon as possible. Also, she has asked about the CCTV camera in the alleyway, the security of the fences and gates, plus the maintenance of the section of the alleyway which is a public footpath. Also, she has written to the police, asking for extra patrols.

“I have asked Council Officers for a site meeting to try to take some tougher action against the perpetrators. These are disgraceful and unacceptable conditions for anyone to be living and working. It is a blight on Romford Town Centre. “
