‘These library closures are shameful and shortsighted decisions’. Romford MP hits out at Havering Council.
“I am devastated to learn that despite overwhelming opposition from local people, Havering Council have still decided to close Gidea Park Library from 1st April 2025.”
24 years ago, the Member of Parliament for Romford, Andrew Rosindell led the successful local campaign against the then Labour Council’s plans to shut our library and did so again in collaboration with Squirrels Heath Ward the councillors last year, with a Labour and Residents’ Association administration back in control of the Town Hall.
Mr Rosindell told the Havring Daily: “This time it looks like our community will be ignored by those in power. It’s a shameful and shortsighted decision and as Romford’s MP, I will carry on the fight to #SaveGideaParkLibrary 📚📘
“The proposed closure of Gidea Park Library is wrong. Havering Council must think again and cancel their damaging plans that will harm our local community. I stand with the people of Gidea Park who say STOP the closure!”

The announcement came late yesterday that Havering Council were to close three libraries-South Hornchurch, Gidea Park and Harold Wood due to financial constraints.
