The more these tower blocks keep coming and the less of the old Romford remains that we know and love. I’m thoroughly opposing this and standing with residents,”-Andrew Rosindell MP.

Romford residents were joined by Councillor David Taylor, Keith Prince, Judith Holt and Andrew Rosindell MP yesterday evening at the Town Hall to object to pre planning applications that would see another nine storey tower block go up on Como Street car park and another at the Angel Way car park.

Residents living near Como Street have already faced the horrors of two tower blocks at the back of their gardens that has resulted in their homes now believed to be de-valued and with the loss of privacy.

Last year, the Havering Daily joined Councillor David Taylor and residents on Linden Street to see just how these tower blocks had impacted their way of life. Their back rooms and gardens were completely overlooked by several of these tower blocks, making their life a misery.

Now, a planning application will see a proposed development of Como Street car park with more properties being built.

One resident at the protest last night, told the Havering Daily: “When I look out of my window, I see two huge tower blocks that have gone up over the last two years with all the dust and noise disturbance that it has caused. Of course, now we have the loss of privacy in our gardens and if they have a telescope they can look directly into our bedrooms.

“This will be more properties along a small road that does not offer much parking.

“They say this car park is underused, if they were to place a better entrance then this car park would be used better.

“It has ruined our gardens already and destroyed our wildlife, now what will this do? We will be completely surrounded by tower blocks.”

“It is time now that we fight and fight to stop these developments,” Councillor David Taylor.

St Edwards ward Councillor David Taylor has been supporting his residents against these planning applications and last night stood with them to share his objections at the meeting.

“This is a pre-planning application meeting and it is important that we object. It is time that we fight and fight now,” he told residents at the Town Hall.

The Member of Parliament for Romford also stood with his local councillors and residents. “I am completely opposed to the destruction of the character of Romford. We are becoming more and more like inner London. The more of these high rise blocks are built, and the less of a character we retain of our town.

“You are at the front of this now and it will impact your lives and your privacy and it will expand our town in a way that it is going too far.”

Havering and Redbridge Assembly Member Keith Prince told the Havering Daily: “It is very concerning that even though this is a council owned land, the residents feel that the consultation has been very poor.

“Surely as the land is publicly owned, the council have the duty to go above and beyond. This isn’t the case with this project.

I am fully supporting the residents and would like to thank Councillor David Taylor for the fantastic work he is doing.”
