News from Havering Labour Councillors.

Havering Labour Councillors received reports from Public Protection officers on Tuesday 21 October as part of the ‘People’ Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Officers delivered an update on the planned CCTV upgrade to the borough, and Beam Park Councillor Matt Stanton was keen to emphasise that CCTV systems that are not currently available for live monitoring should be connected as soon as possible. “While we understand that the operators can only watch one screen at a time, having access to live monitoring will help our enforcement officers and police to respond to issues”.

Vice-Chair and Heaton Councillor Frankie Walker questioned officers on the Community Safety Partnership report, particularly on the theme of Domestic Violence.

“Too many people, women and men, are suffering violence in the home from people they should be able to trust. While it’s encouraging to hear about the work the council is doing, such as providing Independent Domestic Violence Advisors and working closely with charities like Women’s Aid, there’s a lot more to do”.

While overall Havering is one of the safest London Boroughs, there are places which buck that trend, and its important that residents have confidence in reporting. Non-emergency crime can be reported on 101 or at met.police.uk/report. Havering’s ASB team can be reached on 01708 434343 or at https://www.havering.gov.uk/community-1/anti-social-behaviour-community.
