The East Area BCU Faith Forum meets every quarter, bringing together leaders from different faiths across the BCU to speak together with local police leaders and colleagues.

Two years ago in December 2022, Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell held the first meeting and since then, this group of faith leaders coming together has been growing. The aim is to build trust, dialogue and cohesion and to address community concerns in a collaborative way. This has been a vital link in our communities and is helping to improve communication, information sharing as well as ensuring we respond to policing issues in a swift and effective way.

Stuart Bell, Chief Superintendent for East Area told the Havering Daily:

“Working alongside communities to fight crime, fear of crime and anti social behaviour is vital to effective Policing. Since introducing this forum two years ago, we have seen growing numbers of faith leaders coming together to meet with me and their local police leaders.  It demonstrates the passion that exists in this part of London from those determined to promote cohesion and community safety. It helps us to learn and understand what is causing concern through the lens of crime and safety – from local issues to global events which are having an impact.

“These meetings are improving our ability to listen and respond to concerns and I believe this makes communities safer. This work is by no means complete and will continue to evolve.   We are very fortunate across our three boroughs to have engaged, passionate faith leaders, who work together to support not only their communities but those of other faiths – helping us to improve Policing for everyone.“

Chief Supt Stuart Bell, Chief Inspector Yasar Noori and Superintendent Clare McCarthy with local Faith leaders.
