The Vicar of St. Alban Protomartyr Church in Kings Road, Romford, Father Roderick Hingley, was elected as a Freeman of The London Borough of Havering at the Extraordinary Full Council Meeting last Wednesday 4th December at the Town Hall.

Nominated by Councillor Judith Holt, the Conservative Councillor for St. Alban’s Ward, which was named after the Church, Father Hingley has been its Vicar since January 1992, making him the longest-serving incumbent church leader in the Borough.

“Father Hingley is highly regarded among the church leaders in Romford, he works closely with all the schools in his Parish, acting as a Governor, and he has good relationships with many local businesses, serving as Chaplain of the Havering Chamber of Commerce and Industry,” said Councillor Holt. “He has made St. Alban’s Church a centre of ecclesiastical visual artwork for which it has won twenty-seven Diocesan Awards and, earlier this year, St. Alban’s was accepted on to The London Borough of Havering Local Heritage List. He is a welcome and regular attendee at Full Council Meetings, serving twice as The Mayor’s Chaplain, plus offering spiritual and practical support for Councillors of all political parties. Father Hingley is always there for his parishioners and members of the wider community. He richly deserves the award of Honorary Freeman.”
