Havering Joint Task Force Officers Receive BCU Commander Commendation.
Last week saw officers from Havering Joint Task Force receive Commendations for their fantastic work across Havering.
The small team of five constables and one sergeant are funded by Havering council and lead the proactive approach to motor vehicle crime and burglary on the borough.
They have an outstanding record of success and the team have been instrumental in arranging numerous cross border operations with Essex Police to target cross border offenders, increasing the collective resource and ensure that there is no place for criminals to hide. This proactive and collaborative approach has culminated in some outstanding offences and over 1000 arrests.
The team’s arrest roll call makes impressive reading; burglary, possession with intent to supply, theft of motor vehicle, kidnap and sexual offences to name but a few.
Their targeted motor vehicle crime operation, Op Traverspine, led to 43 arrests for motor vehicle offences and 20 arrests for burglary offences in 2023 alone. This has played a significant part in reducing motor vehicle crime in 2023-2024 by 14%.
In 2023 the team were responsible for 219 arrests with a charge rate of 72%, highly impressive figures for such a small team.
The HJTF are responsible for the arrest and charge of numerous prolific offenders and are at the forefront of the police’s response to motor vehicle crime and burglary. It is fair to say that they are working well above capacity on a consistent basis and they deserve to be recognised for their immense efforts.
The team’s Sergeant was awarded for his ‘Dedication to duty and relentless pursuit of prolific offenders and leadership, tenacity and dedication to the role’
The team were each awarded for their ‘Dedication to duty and relentless pursuit of prolific offenders’
Neighbourhoods Superintendent Hutchison told the Havering Daily:“I am incredibly proud of the results that the HJTF produce on a regular basis and their dogged and relentless pursuit of offenders to keep Havering safe”.
