Tesco in Rainham, yesterday Tuesday 29 October, held its first community day where many local groups came to chat and meet shoppers.

The is the first of a new series that will see different groups and charities come to the Rainham store on the last Tuesday of each month with the aim to showcase who they are and also chat with local shoppers about the work they do.

A special community engagement event.

The new initiative came from Rainham Councillor and Tesco superstar Sue Ospreay, alongside Natalie Camillis the store’s community champion and Vickie Fenton who is the store manager and very supportive of all the great work that goes on across the local store.

Yesterday stalls included Havering’s number one nutritionist Sharon Atkins, who chatted with locals on healthy eating and the best way to manager their diets. She was also on hand to talk about any medical concerns shoppers may have had and was able to guide them the best way forward to receive the right support. Sharon has supported many across numerous London boroughs by providing excellent nutritional advice and how to eat to beat disease.

The animal rescue group Harold Hill Deer Aid was also present run by animal rescuer and local community champion Jan Sargeant. Jan is dedicated animal rescuer who spends her days on call helping injured animals alongside her colleagues at Deer Aid. She is also a local community champion in Harold Hill supporting her community everyday. Harold Hill Deer Aid do a truly incredible job across our borough supporting our wildlife and without dedicated teams such as this, our animals would truly suffer even more than they do.

Jo Isaacs and her team of helpers from the MCA Trust was also present to showcase the incredible work the charity does supporting children with cancer. The team are working on a special production of the Little Mermaid soon that will give all children the to opportunity to perform.

This is a fantastic charity that supports children during the difficult journey and gives them much needed support.

Also present at the community morning was Inspector Connolly, South Havering Neighbourhood’s Inspector who was on hand to chat to local residents about any concerns they may have hand. Inspector Connolly spent time giving advice and engaging with residents about local issues. He was also on hand to support Tesco staff with issues they flagged up.

This was a very positive day that saw many shoppers come and engage with the different stall holders and chat to the different groups present.
