Margaret Mullane, the Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham undertook a patrol of Rainham Village with Police officers on the evening of Friday 25 October.

Margaret had requested the site meeting in response to reports from local residents of their safety concerns. She has also separately arranged a meeting with senior management at the Co-operative Society concerning staff safety and shoplifting issues at the Mungo Park Road, Elm Park Coop store.

Margaret confirmed that she is meeting the Havering Borough Metropolitan Police Commander this week to discuss measures to tackle local crime. One of the concerns that has impacted police strength has been calls from other areas of London for local Police officers to be taken, or abstracted, from the borough.

In response to this Margaret has recently made representations to the London Mayor and is writing to the Government Policing Minister to draw attention to the impact when officers are removed from the area.

Margaret told the Havering Daily: “Crime and policing was my number one priority when I ran to be elected and I confirm that as the MP for Dagenham and Rainham working to keep local residents safe and secure will always be my priority.”

Recently it was confirmed in Parliament that Margaret has been selected to serve on the high profile Home Affairs Select Committee.

Inspector Connolly, Inspector for the South of Havering told the Havering Daily:

“On Friday the 25 October I attended Tesco’s Rainham and met with MP Margaret Mullane. Together we walked and discussed the Rainham Policing Team’s activities and community concerns. Rainham Safer Neighbourhoods have been extremely active within the community. There are regular drop in points at Tesco’s for the community to attend and discuss crime prevention and speak with local officers. I highlighted that the team have been working with Tesco’s to ensure any begging and drinking outside the store and in the local area is eliminated. Anti-Social Behaviour will not be tolerated and crime of any form will be dealt with robustly. The team are currently engaged with our partners and the Local Authority to target ASB.

“I would encourage residents to support the local business community and to come forward if they have concerns around ASB or crime. Investment into the local community safety is a collective effort and cannot be solved through policing alone. Your community has a Ward Panel meeting which residents can apply to attend. This is a conduit which allows residents to raise local issues and local concerns through a panel of residents and partners. The panel has a active link with your councillors and is invested in helping to set local policing objectives for your community.  Local policing priorities are set at the ward panel and local issues can be raised directly here. If you want to be involved please contact the local policing team.”

If you witness a crime being committed immediately please call 999. If a crime has been committed or you have a concern around ASB please dial 101.
