Police crackdown on anti social behaviour as part of Clear Hold Build Day of action.
‘We are also focusing on prevention strategies regarding drug use and supply, anti-social behaviour and acquisitive crime. The main outcome is seeking to help those who struggle with addiction into healthcare and rehabilitation programmes, to show a presence in the community for those affected.‘
On Wednesday 16 October Havering Police took part in a day of action across Harold Hill as part of the ongoing Clear, Hold, Build project. Officers joined forces with British Transport Police, and Havering Council Enforcement officers led by Jane Eastaff who does an excellent job across the borough.
The day of action saw a man arrested for possessing a lock knife and two drug users referred to support services as part of Project Adder amongst others.
The teams focused on locations identified as high crime and anti social behaviour, with the aim of the day of action, to reduce crime in Havering.
The partnership approach saw a large uniformed presence bolstered by new probationer Constables ‘Street Duties Unit’ to maximise impact in those areas across the day.
Officers spent time at Farnham Road, in Harold Hill, an area that has suffered from shoplifting, drug use and drug supply combined with anti social behaviour. Later in the afternoon, the officers attended Romford railway station.
During the day of action local officers completed 26 stop and searches on individuals. A 26 year old man from Ilford was found in possession of a lock knife and was arrested for possession of a knife/bladed article. He has subsequently been charged. Five individuals were found in possession of cannabis and were handed Community Resolutions. A shoplifter was also issued a fine. Two drug users were referred into support services. BTP supported railway staff deal with 20 individuals for not paying their travel fare and six were reported for prosecution.
