A member of the public was seriously assaulted alongside a police officer in the custody office.

A police cordon was placed outside of the Tesco Express store in the Heathway Mall in Dagenham yesterday, (13 October), after a man assaulted two members of the public.

The first incident saw the man hurl food in the face of a person, the second incident he seriously assaulted a member of the public who has been left with serious injuries and the third incident, he assaulted an officer in the custody office.

The 28 year old Romford man has been arrested on suspicion of Section 20 GBH.

A spokesperson for the Met Police told the Havering Daily:

“We were called to The Heathway in Dagenham at around 20:56 on Sunday, 13 October following reports of two people being assaulted The suspect was inside the Tesco Express store where he has assaulted a member of the public by throwing food in their face.

The suspect then seriously assaulted a female member of the public after leaving the store. This victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

 A 28-year-old man from Romford was arrested on suspicion of Section 20- Grievous Bodily Harm.

 Following an assault against an officer in custody, the man was further arrested on suspicion of two counts of racially aggravated harassment and assault of an emergency worker.

 He remains in custody.”
