Romford MP and Councillors attend special Indian festival in Gidea Park.
Members of the Hindu community celebrated the annual festival of Durga Puja at Gidea Park Cricket Club yesterday 12 October. The event was hosted by Essex Indians and pays homage to the Goddess Durga.
Andrew Rosindell the Member of Parliament for Romford took part in the festivities alongside Romford councillors Dilip and Nisha Patel and Viddy Persaud.
The festival takes place every October and is a ten day festival where Hindus undertake Puja either in public or even in their homes.
Mr Rosindell was the key speaker at the event and spoke about the fantastic relationship and long history between England and India and praised the incredible contribution Hindus have made and are still making everyday in our community.
As Durga Puja highlights the importance of women, Mr Rosindell thanked Councillors Nisha Patel and Viddy Persaud for all their hard work as local councillors and also as valued members of the community.
Essex Indians are a local charity that host many events throughout the year and work closely to stop violence against women and girls in our community.
