Last Friday Councillors Christine Smith, John Wood, and Bryan Vincent joined forces with volunteers from Havering Green Streets to plant in the council white concrete planters along Billet Lane and High Street Hornchurch.

The day started with councillor Bryan Vincent picking up some of the plants in his car from the Green Streets base in the Greenhouse at Langton’s.

It was then off to Billet Lane with Gina’s team following pushing their wheelbarrows/trolleys laden with their tools, compost, and other plants.

The councillors agreed it It was a bit late in the season to plant up the planters but due to the sorry state they were in throughout the summer, they needed to be brightened up as does the Town Centre.

Councillor Bryan told the Havering Daily:

“We hope to get Sainsburys on board to help us plant up the four large brick planters in the front of their store.”

Councillor Vincent has written a begging letter to their Head Office in Holborn requesting they realise as the biggest store in Hornchurch Town Centre they need to brighten up the front of their store. Currently it looks a disgrace, full of weeds.

A special mention of thanks goes to Gina’s team of volunteers “Greenstreets” from the “Hornchurch Residents’ Association” for helping to brighten up Hornchurch Town Centre.
