The latest production at the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch is the perfect tonic to a cold autumn night.

Our local theatre reviewer Ruth Kettle-Frisby today shares her review on the fantastic Bedroom Farce at the Queen’s Theatre.

There are bed-wrestling antics a-plenty and legs akimbo galore; while more probing, and uncomfortable questions about sexual politics, intergender marital tensions, and casually oppressive attitudes to women through familiar societal tropes are flirted with and laced through the narrativefor the audience to ponder.

Our attention hops from one couple’s bed to another before the dynamics are thrown into disarray and individual marital circles overlap into a comically troublesome Venn diagram.

This production is a credit to director Alex Thorpe and all the wonderful actors, the melodramatic delivery and relentless comic timing of whom had the audience cackling away throughout.

Lovingly shared mundanity intertwined with the absurdity of mutually disagreeable habits encapsulates (for many, I suspect) the deceptive profundity of a successful marriage in its golden years; aspirational imperfection that is performed exquisitely by Louise Bangay and Paul Cawley, who had us all eating out of their luxury-illicit-pilchard-smelling hands.
