It is clear that monitoring of air quality in Havering is inadequate.
News from Havering Climate Coalition.
We are alarmed to see that Havering’s leader of the Council, Councillor Morgon is playing politics with the issue of air pollution in Havering. He has complained (in The Havering Daily 15th August) that the Mayor of London will not provide specific measurements of air pollution in Havering:
‘Havering’s Leader of the Council, Councillor Ray Morgon has today released a statement on ULEZ air quality six month report.
“It is welcome news that the air quality of London is getting better. However, I am disappointed and somewhat surprised though that for some reason we are unable to see any results broken down for Havering.”
If this council were doing its job and measuring air quality properly, they would have these statistics.
In fact, the Borough’s Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP) is out of date – even though Havering are statutorily obliged to have a current AQAP.
This is all astonishing!
What is more, we have pointed out before that, of the 60+ monitoring stations in Havering, only one measures pm2.5 and only two measure pm10. See Air Quality Annual Status Report 2022 for the year 2021 (*), which is the latest available!
It is clear that monitoring of air quality in Havering is inadequate, but the Leader is trying to blame the Mayor for his own lack of information!
