Beam Park ward Councillor Matthew Stanton today shares news from the latest Places’ Overview & Scrutiny sub-committee.

Wednesday 28th August saw the most recent meeting of the ‘Places’ Overview & Scrutiny sub-committee.

Councillors heard from officers regarding the bank holiday refuse collections, a change under the new Urbaser contract. Labour councillor Matt Stanton took the opportunity to ask officers for the overall good collection statistics to be provided in more detail so where there are areas of concern they can be identified and addressed.

Officers updated the committee on the progress of regular safety checks carried out on our properties, from electrical and gas safety checks, to inspections of the front doors of council properties.

Most importantly, officers presented a report to the committee on the Waterloo Road development, which has been delayed while important assessments of safety were made following the tragic Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.With each ‘missing’ unit of accommodation costing Havering approximately £30’000 a year, it is important that this development is progressed as quickly as possible, not only to ease the financial pressure on the Council, but also to help our residents into secure and good-quality accommodation.
