Grandmother speaks out over grand daughter’s shocking treatment at Goodmayes Mental Health Hospital.Eighteen year old found with ligatures round her neck told by staff “Go home and do that so we don’t get into trouble.

The grandmother of an eighteen year old girl from Havering has spoken exclusively to the Havering Daily about the appalling treatment her grand daughter is currently receiving a Goodmayes Hospital.

Chantelle was admitted on 9 June after suffering severe mental health problems. Her grandmother Teresa firmly believes she has deteriorated since being at the Goodmayes Hospital.

Teresa told the Havering Daily:”Words cannot explain just how horrified we are at the shocking treatment she has received whilst in the care of this hospital.

“She has just come out of a coma after escaping three times from what is supposed to be a secure unit. The last time she managed to step into oncoming traffic in north London and the injuries left her in a coma. Her mother and I are heartbroken.

“She is autistic and this is the treatment she receives.

“She really was better before going into this unit and hospital. Her mental health has really deteriorated since she has been in there.”

Teresa and her family are also appalled at the way staff have treated Chantelle since being there.

“She was punched in the face by one member of staff. She was found with ligatures round her neck and told “Wait til you go home and do it there so we don’t get into trouble.”

“She is just left there with no support, told by nurses they don’t like her and wishes she was gone.

“We have begged and pleaded for one to one support to help her and none is ever given.

“They are not helping her in any way, actually they are making her even worse and she is desperate to leave now.”

Teresa told us that unfortunately as Chantelle is under a Section 3, she currently cannot leave and is stuck at the hospital.

“The medications they have given her do not work, they say she uses autism as an excuse. We really have no words for the treatment she has received there. It is horrendous.

“We need help and we do not know who else to turn turn”, were Teresa’s last words to us.

The Havering Daily contacted Goodmayes hospital for a quote:

A NELFT spokesperson said:

“We cannot comment on specific cases, but patient safety is our absolute priority, and we work closely with our patients and their families to ensure we provide compassionate care tailored to their needs.”

Chantelle also left us with this message: “”They don’t help me. They just feed us with medication or hold us down and inject us. This just brings us more trauma.”

Chantelle is currently fundraising to get medical help for her.

What I have been able to ascertain from reading this article, (Including the appeal for funding). Is that this young lady apparently has a cyst on her brain, which means that she needs medical intervention at the earliest possible date. She also has other chronic conditions requiring constant attention, all of which are not the remit of mental health care provision. It also seems that she has the ability and willingness to aggravate her own problems by continually leaving the premises by her own personal wanton efforts. I have every sympathy for the staff of Goodmayes, who seem to have been vilified beyond reasonable expectation.
