The Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham Margaret Mullane has visited Dagenham Leisure Centre alongside the leader of the Council and local ward councillors to chat with the eighty families who have been displaced by the fire.

Residents arrived early in the morning as It is believed the fire started just before 3am with the first calls received by the London Fire Brigade at 2:44 am.

Residents have been placed at the Leisure Centre where staff have been looking after them and nearby shops such as Morrisons have been providing them with food and even mobile phone charges.

Families are not able to access their homes or their vehicles at the moment and it is still unsure where some will be placed tonight.

Barking and Dagenham Council held and emergency gold team meeting this morning led by Leader Councillor Darren Rodwell who is also on hand to support residents in the area impacted by the fire.

The building is not council owned so long term plans are still unknown at this stage. It is also not known if residents will be able to return to their homes as the Fire Brigade have warned that the whole block has been damaged and the building structure itself is now also impacted.
