A man has been charged after a police officer was injured in a fail to stop collision in Redbridge.

Shayden Mullings, 23, of Daventry Road RM3, was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a license.

He appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court yesterday and is next due to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday, 16 September.

At about 16:45hrs on Tuesday, 6 August, officers attempted to stop a grey Lexus on the A12 at the junction with Barley Lane in Redbridge.

The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised, supported by officers from the Roads and Transport Policing Command.

As part of efforts to stop the car, officers set up a ‘stinger site’. The driver of the Lexus mounted the pavement before the car collided with one of the officers.

The suspect drove from the scene and his car was found abandoned on the Kings Mead estate in Hackney.

The officer was taken to hospital. Thankfully, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and he has now left hospital. He is being supported by colleagues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, referencing CAD 5594/06Aug. To remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
