Romford residents left for weeks without hot water.
Residents living on Friar’s Court, on the Oldchurch Estate in Romford have been left without hot water for weeks.
Local councillors Viddy Persaud and Tim Ryan have been working tirelessly with residents and housing provider Sanctuary to restore hot water to the block of flats. Despite their hard work, residents still have no hot water.
The Havering Daily joined the many locals living on Friar’s Court last week to talk about the problems they have faced.
From families, to pensioners, they have all faced weeks of not being able to bath or shower as the hot water has not worked.
One resident who did not wish to be named, told the Havering Daily: “They tell us engineers are coming, they need a new part, yet here we are weeks gone by and we still have no hot water.
“They have left families with young children without the ability to wash. During the hot weather people need to wash.”
One pensioner was told engineers were due to come and waited an entire day for them without any joy as no one came. Others have leaks outside their front doors where the ceilings are leaking water and no one comes to repair them.
Councillor Persaud and Ryan told the Havering Daily: “We have been working closely with the residents of both the blocks , we have had meetings with the management team but despite promises the residents are living in an environment where no one seems to listen .
We will continue to be a strong voice for the residents.”
Residents are angry at having to wait weeks for the system to be repaired, especially during the hot weather and school holidays.
“This is not acceptable, they cannot leave us like this. Yet they will soon be writing to us to tell us that our service charges have increased.”
The Havering Daily has contacted Sanctuary for a quote, but none was provided.
