Havering Mayor opens new exhibition ‘Voice’ by Paint.
Mayor of Havering, Councillor Gerry O’Sullivan has opened the latest exhibition at Daniel’s View, ‘Voice’ by Paint wellbeing.
Paint wellbeing is a creative, therapeutic programme, using painting to promote mental health and wellbeing. Their exhibition ‘Voice’ was launched on Saturday 20th July, attended by some the artists involved and the Mayor of Havering.
Organisers Julie and Irlene have spent weeks guiding an amazingly talented group of people through a personal art journey which has resulted in a wonderful array of powerful paintings. Their art is described as having “expressed raw emotion into every brush stroke.”
The artists delivered touching speeches and talked about how much the programme means to them, painting has become a tool for them to express their feelings and emotions, to get them out of their head and onto paper. It also helped encouraged them to engage with the local community.
Using painting as a tool to encourage connection and as a voice to express thoughts and feelings, this exhibition showcases the work of many voices from both those displaced by war and the local community. Through their paintings, they all have their own stories to tell.
The project is funded by the Havering Refugee Small Grant Fund.
Free to the public to view until 20th August at The Mercury Mall, Level Three.
