Romford Councillor David Taylor has recently submitted a Freedom of Information Request to Havering Council over the number of artwork they own.

Today, Councillor Taylor writes:

According to the Taxpayer’s Alliance, who collected information via an FOI, Havering Council owns 18,500 pieces of art. Just 17 of which are on display.

Given it is now accessible to the public, I’ve asked the following questions;

1) How much is this art worth?
2) Has the collection been insured, for how much, and what does the insurance cost?
3) The annual cost of storing this art?

Art, owned by the taxpayer, should be available to the public. If it cannot be or won’t be, then we shouldn’t be collecting art as a council.

If the chart below is accurate, we hold a phenomenal collection in comparison to others.
