Havering Council have confirmed that Waltham Forest remain responsible for the support of those housed in the hotel. Those in the hotel do not become the responsibility of Havering Council with regards to being housed.

Following ongoing speculation about the future of Harefield Manor in Romford, Councillor David Taylor has shared the following information with the Havering Daily.

After conversations with Havering Council, I can confirm that Waltham Forest Council have booked the Harefield Manor Hotel for accommodation. Waltham Forest have placed a mixture of single individuals and over 30 families into the hotel. These residents are supported by Waltham Forest staff in securing more permanent and suitable accommodation.

Havering Council have confirmed that Waltham Forest remain responsible for the support of those housed in the hotel. Those in the hotel do not become the responsibility of Havering Council with regards to being housed.

There is no indication that those housed at Harefield Manor are placed there by the Home Office.

Following conversations with local residents, who have raised concerns around anti-social behaviour, I have written to Waltham Forest council and the local police to request support in the area.

Homelessness is a crisis in every London borough. Havering itself has over 1,100 households in temporary accommodation and it recently reopened Royal Jubilee Court to accommodate over 70 families and reduce the homelessness bill.

No council wants to use hotels to solve the homelessness problem, due to increasing costs and a lack of suitability. However, I would encourage residents to look upon those housed in temporary accommodation with compassion and kindness.

As your local Councillor, I will stay abreast of any concerns and will continue to flag these with the relevant authorities. I remain conscious of local’s concerns around anti-social behaviour.

Ultimately, we must do more as a society to end homelessness. This looks like providing more social homes, especially those suitable for families. I will continue to push for this both locally and nationally.

Why is Romford East London’s dumping ground? It’s all well and good to say treat them with compassion but looking at the filthy state of this once-nice town and its daily decline, they have no intention of returning the favour. You are pushing all your decent residents out! Good luck getting council tax out of these new incumbents. And why are WF’s homeless being housed in a hotel while ours are making their homes in underpasses and their livings at traffic lights. SORT IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well said, I couldn’t agree more or said it any better. In fact, England has been, and still is, the dumping ground of Europe and it’s becoming ever more obvious on our doorstep.
