Despite endless pleas from bereaved parents, knife crime is now out of control.
For years, parents and anti knife crime campaigners have called upon those in authority to step in and help them stop the battle against knife crime. They ignored all the pleas and we now have a knife crime epidemic on our streets where youths are openly and proudly brandishing their weapons on our streets for all to see.
Below is a perfect example of a male in East London over the weekend who fearlessly shows his weapon to the local community in a bid to be the top boss for the day. After all there is no deterrent for him, especially now when prisons are being emptied and believe it or not, police officers are being encouraged not to arrest people.
The most worrying part is that this is not a one off, but a regular occurrence. Knife crime is part of our youth’s lives. They aren’t shocked by death, they are all too used to losing friends to knife crime and used to the fact that even if the perpetrators are frequently arrested, the court hands out what most call ‘ a slap on the wrist’ and they are back out on the street with their knife or machete.
Parents and anti knife crime campaigners spend their days battling to stop youths killing each other. They beg and plead with youths to not carry knives. They run workshops, special sessions, visit schools, chat to our youth about the importance of not carrying a knife and even talk about the heartbreak of losing their son to knife crime.
Nobody cares and nobody listens. They work frequently with local police officers who equally do a fantastic job across our communities battling knife crime, but that’s where it stops. Nobody in authority is prepared to tackle knife crime. Despite endless empty promises-nothing is done and very few have any trust in any of them to do anything to stop this epidemic killing our youths.
Last week, in Harold Hill we saw three stabbings take place. The community wasn’t shocked as they are all too familiar with those carrying knives.
And here we are, knife crime is an epidemic on our streets, with those proudly brandishing their weapons in broad daylight for all to see. After all ,nobody cares……..
