Dagenham and Rainham MP responds to pedestrian safety concerns.
The Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham, Margaret Mullane has responded to requests for action to protect pedestrians using Rainham Road in Elm Park.
Residents pointed out to Margaret that the footpath on the southern side of the road between the railway bridge and Dunningford Close is very narrow and potentially hazardous for pedestrians.
Margaret told the Havering Daily: “I have written to Havering Council to draw their attention to the problem and called for safety measures such as railings to be installed to protect pedestrians.
As Havering Council has recently adopted a suite of policies aimed at enabling people to live healthier lives, anything which impedes active travel should be a priority for this administration to investigate and resolve”.
Margaret went on to say: “I also asked if the Council had considered any measures to make this stretch of Rainham Road a more viable option for active travel by residents of all ages and levels of ability.
Constituents highlighted to me that further along that stretch of Rainham Road near the entry into Bretons Outdoor Recreation Centre is an uncontrolled crossing over a busy road, and they would like the possibility of an appropriate controlled crossing, investigated for this location”.
