Save our libraries! School children unite in a desperate bid to save their much loved library.
A headteacher and his pupils protested outside of Harold Wood library following proposed council plans to close it.
Mr Fryd and his pupils from Harold Wood Primary School, yesterday 15 July, gathered outside of the library alongside parents, protesters and the three local councillors who had organised the event.
Chants of Save our libraries! could be heard across Harold Wood as the pupils waved banners and posters showing their unhappiness at council plans.
Councillors Brian Eagling, Martin Goode and Darren Wise joined parents and children yesterday and have led the battle to keep their library open.
Headteacher Mr Fryd spoke of the vital need to keep the library open as it is the only free space available for people to access now, not only to sit and read, but use as warm hub and other needs the community has.
Councillor Eagling spoke to parents telling them of their anger at the proposed closure plans by the current administration and their failings to understand the vital need to keep our libraries open.
Since the proposed closure of Harold Wood ,Elm Park,Collier Row and Gidea Park libraries were announced, the council have faced a backlash of anger at what other councillors are calling short sited plans. Residents have also been quick to criticise the council, stating that our libraries are vital to our community.
The battle continues…….
