Councillor Paul McGeary, Cabinet Lead for Housing and Property and Gooshays Ward Councillor, later joined by Cllr Keith Darvill and Cllr Mandy Anderson, recently visited the construction site at the new Family Welcome Centre in Harold Hill, as part of the ‘Meet the Builder’ session with local residents hosted by council contractor, Bugler Developments Ltd.

The welcome centre forms phase one of the Harold Hill Town Centre Masterplan, which also includes Chippenham Road (phase two) and Farnham and Hilldene (Phase three) regeneration.

Under the plans, the welcome centre will consist of 74 self-contained dwellings in a variety of sizes, with the largest size accommodating up to eight family members and will replace the borough’s existing hostels.

Designed as a U-shaped building, a landscaped central courtyard will sit at the heart of the centre, creating an attractive and secure space for families including play areas for children. Internally, the centre will include several shared spaces, such as recreational spaces for residents and families, as well as support facilities and private areas.

Councillor McGeary, said:

“It was great to see the commitment from Bugler to ensure that they will remain a conscientious constructor to their neighbours living close to the project, as work gets underway to build our landmark Family Welcome Centre, which will help support our most vulnerable families and individuals in our borough.

“I look forward to seeing the progress made on site over the coming months.”

Start on site date was 8 July 2024, and the Family Welcome Centre is scheduled to open in Spring 2026.
