Saving our wildlife is vital for all our communities. Thanks to organisations such as Harold Hill Deer Aid run solely by volunteers, endless animals are saved and rescued each day. These volunteers go above and beyond to rescue our wildlife that is at the point of extinction now. They really are amazing community heroes.

Please read their story below on the incredible rescue of two abandoned pigs.

Over the last week, Harold Hill Deer Aid have played a part in helping with the safe capture of two beautiful pigs that were abandoned by their previous owners.
The poor pigs who previously to had spent all their lives in captivity in a small enclosure were left literally to their own devices.
Not knowing what to do and without food and water the pigs found themselves getting into all kinds of sticky situations including finding themselves on a busy housing estate and trying to cross very busy roads.
There were many sightings of the poor frightened animals and after a sighting one of the pigs wandering around in a busy residential area on an extremely hot day Sharon D Davies from Channel 4’s Wildlife Rescue fame knew that she needed to spring into action to help.
Thankfully lots of lovely people in the street provided enough fruit, biscuits and water to keep him safe while Sharon managed to rally enough support from fellow rescue volunteers, organisations and specialist vets to start the ball rolling in the rescue mission.
Unfortunately at the time no animal organisations were able to offer any assistance so
left with this situation, Sharon and the local community had no choice but to take the matter into their own hands.
This is where the animal rescue community came together to help.
Sharon contacted us and many others who spend most of their lives helping animals and plans were put in place to ensure this little piggy was taken to safety.
Once Billy was safely relocated she received a call about the SECOND pig.
Can you believe, Ricky was on the complete other side of the town !!
Now, this one proved to be a little “Houdini”.
Despite every effort made to capture him, every day he outsmarted the rescue team.
So many amazing people spent hours throughout the day and night trying to secure his safety.
There were no end to the measures they were prepared to put in place to secure his safe capture.
All involved have certainly been on a rollercoaster of emotions trying to save this beautiful boy.
But then, all those efforts were finally rewarded.
The pure determination from the rescue community, local volunteers and expertise from Sam from Tyndall Vets in Gloucestershire “Tricky Ricky” ensured that Ricky was finally safely captured. Hooorayyy !!!
After receiving some much needed veterinary and loving care, the brothers were reunited.
What a fantastic sight and sense of accomplishment that must have been.
The brothers have been through SO much, but now they will finally get to live out their lives peacefully side by side.
Everyone would like to say a special thank you to those who helped on the day of Billy being found on a housing estate by feeding and giving him water to keep him where he was which stopped him from going into the busy roads.
To those who have been on the journey with the rescue team, building and securing enclosures, daily feeding, monitoring, endless searches, connecting and calling rescue organisations and working tirelessly behind the scenes to plan the rescue operation this would NOT have been possible without each and every one of you !
A massive shout out goes to British Divers, Vet’s Ian and Sam for their expertise and experience.
Last but not least, a special thank you to Sophie and Lou for without them offering temporary foster care and a forever home things would have been a whole lot more different for the poor boys.
This is a whole new beginning for the Billericay Brothers.
Their journey to an amazing life has just began and to support this journey and to recuperate costs a Go Fund Me page has been set up.
