‘I will play my part in rebuilding trust by serving the people of Dagenham and Rainham.’
‘I made a number of local pledges to the people of Dagenham and Rainham before and during the election campaign, my work starts now to honour those pledges,’ Margaret Mullane the Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham.
Dagenham and Rainham has a new Member of Parliament, Margaret Mullane. The Havering Daily has worked for several years with Margaret as she began to step into the shoes of former MP Jon Cruddas. Margaret is a community caring person. A person who listens to her residents and puts those concerns at the top of her agenda. Even those who are openly not Labour voters, have agreed that she is a ‘genuinely nice person who cares for her residents.’
Today, Margaret shares her plans for her area and her commitment to her constituents. She writes:
I am deeply honoured to be elected as the Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham. I grew up, went to school and have worked all my adult life in the constituency. My commitment to local people to do all I can to improve lives, life chances and our communities is absolute.
The next years will not be easy, not only are our public services, such as the NHS, on their knees but also trust in our institutions and politics is at an all time low. I am determined to work to put this right. I made a number of local pledges to the people of Dagenham and Rainham before and during the election campaign, my work starts now to honour those pledges and to help rebuild trust and break down the cynicism that has infected the nation over the past decade and more.
I will be devoting particular attention to the issues of safety on our streets, tackling violent crime and meeting the need for homes that are truly affordable and of good quality for families, building thriving communities where people put down roots for the future.
I thank most sincerely all those who voted for me and the many local people who volunteered their time and energy to make sure we continue to have a Labour MP representing Dagenham and Rainham at Westminster. But I want to emphasise that I will be serving all people, irrespective of how they voted or even if they did not vote, to work in their interests.
Elections by their very nature point up differences, I see a vital part of my role as MP as doing everything I can to unite communities across the constituency to demonstrate that we have far more in common than what divides us. I say this because I am concerned that there will be malign forces at work in society intent on driving wedges and division that can only cause harm.
For me service isn’t just an easy word to use, it marks my whole approach. I believe much of the distrust that has grown has come from those who have been in positions of trust dishonouring that trust and looking to only serve themselves. That must end now, I will play my part in rebuilding trust by serving the people of Dagenham and Rainham.
