Rainham councillor Jackie McArdle has left the Havering Residents Association to join the Conservatives.

In a leaving statement, Councillor McArdle has stated that the decision was a hard one and that she has felt very isolated from the ward team and not really fitting in with the HRA.

Councillor McArdle said:

I have thought long and hard over my decision to leave The HRA and the decision wasn’t an easy one.

I have spent the last year feeling isolated from the ward team and not really fitting in with The Party ever since my public outburst against the owner of Launders Lane on social media.

Ironically I was fighting The HRA and The Councils corner with their efforts to resolve this longstanding issue, my comments did become inappropriate so they were removed and apologised for.

This wasn’t enough for some people so I was harassed and threatened with no support from anyone.

The damage was now done and the rift was becoming more and more obvious.  I did attempt to leave The Party last summer and just sit as an independent; I was advised that I would then be more isolated and that you need the backing of a party behind you so I stayed.

Nothing really changed and I felt then that the wrong party was behind me, so I have taken this hard decision as I want to continue serving the residents who elected me and represent them to the best of my ability. By being part of the new Conservative Group I am confident that I will get  the help and support I need to serve the community.
