‘Please Havering Council-give us our footpaths back!’
Beam Park residents and visitors wishing to walk along New Road will know that the vegetation along the edge of the footpath has never been properly maintained by the council.
Despite raising it several times, Beam Park Councillors Trevor McKeever and Matt Stanton say the council has been slow to act.
“We have been asking the council since we were first elected to look after one of the main roads in the area, but something clearly isn’t working”, said Councillor Mckeever. “With the new housing being built more and more people are choosing to walk and cycle along New Road but overgrown paths are not the best encouragement”.
Councillor Stanton also raised the issue of accessibility, pointing out that in one location the tactile paving was obscured by vegetation: “Tactile paving is essential for visually impaired people as it alerts them that they are approaching a crossing. The fact that Havering Council has repeatedly ignored their duty to disabled residents is appalling”.
