Fantastic proactive operation across Barking and Ilford sees many arrests made.
Fantastic work by officers across East Area has seen 13 people arrested for threats to kill, handling stolen goods, assault and sexual assault and possession of a knife.
Last week saw two further deployments of Live Facial Recognition (LFR) alongside a pro-active operation by officers in Barking and Ilford at areas of crime that the local community have told police are causing concern.
In total 13 people were arrested in the operation, deploying the precision fighting technology including burglary, handling stolen goods, theft, threats to kill, assault and sexual assault. One person was found in possession of a knife and a quantity of Class A drugs
Superintendent David Rhodes, who oversees neighbourhood policing in Barking & Dagenham, said
“Seeing the results shows the value of precision policing technology in taking wanted offenders off the streets of Barking & Dagenham. The technology coupled with local officers patrolling their area is what the community crime fighting is all about. It was brilliant to speak to local people and businesses who supported our use of Live Facial Recognition technology”.
Inspector Matthew Ross who leads the Ilford town centre team, said:
“It is such a benefit to Ilford that we can use this accurate technology which can identify wanted offenders. This has enabled us to take criminals who use violence or steal from our communities off the streets. Speaking with people who were curious about this, gave supportive feedback when we explained how this technology works. We will continue to target criminals in repeating this and other types of operations in Ilford Town.”
