Update: 125 Firefighters tackling large blaze at Rainham industrial estate.

Road closures and buses on diversion.

There are now twenty five engines and around 125 firefighters are tackling a large blaze at an industrial estate on Ferry Lane in Rainham.

One warehouse containing multiple industrial units is currently alight. A 25-metre cordon is in place as a precaution. People are advised to keep windows and doors shut in the local area due to the high volume of smoke being produced and avoid Ferry Lane if possible.

This may be a protracted incident, with crews on scene for several hours to come.

The Brigade was called at 1311. Fire crews from Barking, East Ham, Wennington, Dagenham and surrounding fire stations are at the scene. Firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service are supporting at the scene.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have taken a large number of calls about a visible plume of smoke. Although we believe these calls are linked to this fire, it’s important that you do call the Brigade if you suspect there may be a fire in your area. 

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
