‘Animals are not laboratory tools but sentient creatures.’

The Member of Parliament for Romford, Andrew Rosindell will today continue his fight to stop animal testing. Mr Rosindell, an animal champion, will ask an important question in the House this morning, in a bid to end cruel testing on animals.

Known locally for his love of animals and supporting many animal charities not only in Havering, but nationally, the Romford MP will today put forward the following question:

The Minister will recall that during my time as Shadow Minister for Animal Welfare in the Home Affairs team, the reduction, and ultimate ending of the need to use animals for testing purposes was an issue dear to my heart and continues to be an important policy area to many of my animal loving constituents from Romford.

So, does the Minister agree with me that animals are not laboratory tools, but sentient creatures and policy of replacement, reduction and refinement must remain at the core of government policy on this matter.”

As animal welfare campaigners urge all politically parties to look into the rapid decline of our wildlife, especially across an over built London, Mr Rosindell’s call to end testing on animals will be very well received and much needed.

I’m sad he’s going to lose his seat at the next election, but throwing cancer researchers under a bus because he doesn’t understand their work isn’t the way to curry favour with the electorate. Most biomedical, animal and environmental research has always not involved animals, but their small contribution is also vitally important. Ending their use doesn’t mean they’re ‘freed’: it means they don’t exist in the first place. The most disturbing thing is, he’s been an MP for 23 years, with researchers and a House of Commons library, the ability to summon any number of unbiased experts and he still doesn’t understand the issues he’s legislating on.
