VIDEO:SEND Parents calling on call on council to fulfill their duty and complete consultation correctly as FOI shows only half of the schools consulted.
Parents and carers of children with special educational needs were demonstrating outside of the Town Hall in Romford yesterday Wednesday 15 May. The parents have been campaigning to keep the current transport system in place for SEND children after the council announced last year that they were planning possible cuts to the current system.
Yesterday, parents gathered outside of the Town Hall where a cabinet meeting was due to take place to discuss further plans. Parents stood with placards and called on councillors and council staff to fulfill their obligation in completing a correct consultation process after an FOI submitted by one parent revealed that so far the council had only dealt with half of the out of borough schools it was supposed to.
Parents are angry and dismayed that children who already face many challenges, are now being penalised by the council and could face educational disruption if plans to cut their transport system go ahead.
St Albans Ward Councillor Judith Holt yesterday spoke at the cabinet meeting on behalf of parents to question why the consultation was not being completed correctly and urge council staff to fulfill their duty.
