Yesterday, 14 May should have been Ricky Hayden’s birthday. His parents, family and friends have spent another birthday without him. He should have been here, he should have been with his family where he belonged, but he wasn’t. Why? Because his life was cut short in 2016 due to knife crime. Another brutal murder on the streets of London where another family has lost a loved one and had their lives ended too.

For those who are not familiar with the heartbreak knife crime causes a family, then spend a day with Ricky’s mother Sue and you will soon realise just how devastating it is. When Ricky died, a part of his family died too. Nothing will replace their son and brother, nothing. The family had to make the heartbreaking decision to turn his life support machine off and say goodbye. An indescribable pain.

Since Ricky’s murder, Sue and April (Ricky’s sister) have campaigned tirelessly to stop knife crime. They have stood outside No 10 Downing Street, outside City Hall and urged politicians to intervene to stop this epidemic on our streets. None have listened or cared.

Sue is a real community champion who donates vital life saving Daniel Baird bleed kits all across our communities. One of which was used to save a teenagers life.

This family will never recover from losing Ricky.

Ricky-Happy heavenly birthday, you are much loved and will never be forgotten.
