Celebrating St. George’s Day with Romford District Scouts
On Sunday, April 21st, Romford District Scouts took to the streets of Collier Row in a vibrant parade to honor St. George’s Day. The community witnessed over 700 young scouts and their leaders marching proudly through the town.
Romford District Scouts, an organisation dedicated to providing life-changing experiences and essential life skills to over 1,000 youngsters aged 4 to 17, orchestrated this memorable event. Supported by a dedicated team of 400 adult volunteers, the Scouts represent a diverse mix of age groups, genders, and abilities.
Led by the Brentwood Imperial Youth Band Corps of Drums, the parade commenced its journey from the North Romford Community Centre. The route, guided by the beat of drums and the enthusiasm of the scouts, wound its way through Collier Row, culminating at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lowshoe Lane.

One of the highlights of the parade was the moment when the Group Scout Leaders took the salute from distinguished guests, including Craig Haslam DL FGPT, Deputy Lieutenant for the Greater London Lieutenancy, Councillor Stephanie Nunn, The Worshipful Mayor of Havering, and Dean Jefferys, Romford District Commissioner.
Inside the church, the celebratory service unfolded. Reverend Nathan Joss-Pothen, along with the Senior District Team, led the congregation through hymns, prayers, readings, and moral stories. Special scouting awards were presented, recognising the outstanding achievements of the young scouts.

Meanwhile, in the Parish Hall, the younger members of the scouting community enjoyed a play about St. George and the Dragon, performed by The Wesley Players Drama Group.
From the parade through the streets to the heartfelt service in the church, every moment was a testament to the unity and dedication of Romford District Scouts.
