The Member of Parliament for Romford Andrew Rosindell yesterday, Thursday 11 April unveiled a special statue of his murdered friend and fellow MP Sir David Amess on the Southend seafront.

Mr Rosindell was joined by Sir David’s family and other politicians at the moving ceremony. The life size statue was unveiled as a tribute in memory of Sir David on a grass bank looking over the estuary. Lady Julia Amess attended as adults and children from the Orpheus Choir, a group promoted by Sir David, sang.

Mr Rosindell gave a very moving tribute to his friend. He said:

“To by asked to unveil the statue of Sir David Amess in Southend with members of the wonderful Music Man Project was one of the greatest honours of my life. A very emotional day, but one filled with joy at having had the privilege of knowing such a remarkable man and a true friend. Sir David Amess touched so many lives with his love, kindness, generosity, sense of humour and selfless passion to serve his constituency and his country, a patriot who loved all things British, a great Parliamentarian and the founder of the new ‘City of Southend’! We all miss him so much, but David will always be remembered for the fantastic person he was. Thank you Sir David Amess.”
