Police officers in Barking have secured the Heenan and Bateman Close closure order extension, granted for an additional three months. This is good news for the area and is a result of the joint working between police and local authority colleagues.

Police and enforcement officers from Barking and Dagenham Council have been working around the issues in Bateman and Heenan Close, in Barking, regarding issues such as ASB, people gaining access to the blocks to sleep, and the use and sale of drugs.

Officers took the closure order application to court on Tuesday, 9 January and the judge granted it for both locations for three months. A further application has gone in to request a further three months until 7 July 2024.

Superintendent David Rhodes said:

“The police and local authority are pleased to announce the extension of the closure order for a problem that has been a real concern for the local community. We will continue to patrol the areas and listen to what residents are telling us in order to make sure we don’t regress on the achievements that have been made”

Gary Jones, Operational Director for Enforcement, Regulatory and Community Safety at Barking and Dagenham Council said: “I’m really pleased that the closure order at Bateman and Heenan Close has been extended for a further three months.

“We know this area has been plagued with antisocial behaviour in the past, but we have seen a significant reduction since the order was brought in. We will continue to work with the police and local residents to make sure we continue to crack down on the issues here.”

The police have been working closely with the council to ensure that enforcement action is taken against any individual who breaches the closure orders.

Gary Jones, Operational Director for Enforcement, Regulatory and Community Safety at Barking and Dagenham Council said:

“I’m really pleased that the Closure Order at Bateman and Heenan Close has been extended for a further three months.

“We know this area has been plagued with antisocial behaviour in the past, but we have seen a significant reduction since the Order was brought in. We will continue to work with the police and local residents to make sure we continue to crack down on the issues here.”

Officers have carried out 21 stop and searches, three arrests and generated 12 intelligence reports.
