Police launch investigation following fire in Romford church hall.
Police have launched an investigation following a fire at a church hall in Romford in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters responded to a fire in a disused church hall on St Andrews Road in Romford overnight (11 April).
Part of the ground floor, first floor and the building’s roof was damaged by the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
One of the Brigade’s 32m ladders was deployed to the scene, allowing crews to attack the fire from above.
The fire produced a large amount of smoke and residents in the area were advised to keep doors and windows closed as crews responded.
A spokesperson from St Andrew’s Church, Romford, told the Havering Daily:
“There was a fire at a disused building belonging to St Andrew’s Church Romford earlier today. Thankfully nobody was hurt in the fire. There is no damage at all to the Church itself. The fire service has now extinguished the fire, utilities have been disconnected to mitigate any further risk and the police are investigating the cause. We do not know anything further at this stage.”
