EXCLUSIVE: Community gathers together to help mum look for car involved in hit and run incident.
Hornchurch mother with ten year old daughter in the car deliberately hit as she drove home.
A Hornchurch mother and her ten year old daughter were involved in a hit and run incident on Southend Road, just after 8pm on Monday evening. Joanne had dropped her daughter’s friend home when she noticed the vehicle coming towards her, causing her to swerve in the road.
She told the Havering Daily: “I had to swerve as I saw the car deliberately heading towards me and despite swerving, it hit me full on. We landed up near somebody’s garden, with parts of my car and their car in the middle of the road and debris everywhere. The other car drove off even though I had parts of it under my car.
“Both myself and my daughter were visibly upset. Fortunately we were not hurt, just very shaken. Neighbours from nearby houses came out to help us and a man who had been in the vehicle behind, came out to start directing the traffic as the road had parts of my car and debris all over it.”
Following the incident, a neighbour on Southend Road in Elm Park contacted the police.
“After an hour we were all still in the road waiting for the police, but nobody came so I dialled 999 again. I was then told that as there was no injury or because it was a quiet road, police would not be attending and that I had to call the RAC to remove my car from the road. I was very shocked by this as myself and my daughter had been involved in a hit and run and although we weren’t injured, we were both very badly shaken.”
Since the crash on Monday, the community has stepped in to help find the grey Ford Kuga that hit Joanne.
“I put an appeal out on Facebook to see if anyone had seen this car. It must have been left with extensive damage as part of the vehicle was under mine. The community has been brilliant and have sent me numerous pictures and lots of messages regarding the car that has been spotted. The power of social media and our local community have really been amazing.
“I have now spoken to the police locally who have been very helpful and they have been trying to help us locate this car alongside my husband who has been tracking down various CCTV footage.”
