On 5 May a special music festival is taking place at the Railway pub in Hornchurch in memory of much loved dad Martin Peake. Son Gary, has organised the event to celebrate his father’s memory and to raise money for Cancer Research.

Martin who played in a band in the 60s, was heavily involved in the local music scene, helping bands across Havering and supporting many young people.

Gary told the Havering Daily: “We have six bands lined up, two solo artists and DJs ready for the day. The pub is also doing a collection throughout the event to help us raise money.

“My dad loved music and was involved in helping many local bands and working with young people. This event is to celebrate his life and all the work that he did.

“He was a man who understood the importance of creating and performing live music. He knew that the skills required to create, perform music helped mould and develop future life skills including organisation, teamwork, and discipline all whilst having fun and being passionate about something.

“He was himself, extremely passionate about helping the young generation develop skills for their future whether this be through music or his work career as an engineer, where he worked as a manager for over 40 years at Ford motor company after serving his apprenticeship at 16 years of age.

“After his retirement at the age of 67, he continued working part time as an engineering consultant mentoring and teaching young engineers on manufacturing projects for Aston Martin, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lotus and the London Taxi .

“In the 1960/70’s he played in many havering bands including favourites such as The Aliens and Strange Daze, later on he spent time supporting the live music scene whilst encouraging/ supporting young people, giving his wisdom of his life and musical knowledge, experience within the music scene, business knowledge and general counselling when needed as a father figure.

“Throughout the years, he attended and supported many bands locally and was a very well respected and known character in the havering area
The event is taking place on Bank Holiday Sunday and commences at 12pm.
