New City College Rainham students to build new display train for Tesco.
Stephen Bradshaw the Curriculum Director at New City College in Rainham recently noticed the shabby condition of the much loved display train outside of Tesco on Bridge Road. The train placed on display is used by local Councillor Sue Ospreay to plant flowers, or decorate according to the occasion. Now however, after many years, the train is starting look a little run down and Stephen stepped in to save the day.
He approached staff at Tesco to see if his carpentry students would be able to make a whole new train for the store. Of course Sue and the store were delighted and said, yes!
On Monday 18 March the Havering Daily joined Councillors Sue Ospreay and Sarah Edwards at the New City College Rainham college to meet the staff and see the incredible work the students are doing.
The two councillors were given a guided tour of the stunning facilities available and saw the students plans for the new train.
Councillor Ospreay told the Havering Daily: “I’m delighted that Stephen approached us to build a new train for the community. We have seen the plans and all I can say is that it looks amazing!
“This is a fantastic college and we had the opportunity to see all the work the students are doing here.
“We are eagerly looking forward to seeing the new train!”
The train and its carriages should be ready by the summer, so watch this space!
