Several months ago Margaret Mullane, Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, raised concerns about the corroded state of the clock faces on the Rainham War Memorial with Havering Council. This was noted following the November Remembrance Day service in Rainham.

This week, senior officials at the Council got back to say that an inspection is to take place of the memorial to determine how to deal with the issue.

Margaret told the Havering Daily: “I am pleased that Havering Council is to seriously look into this. The War Memorial with its clock faces is such a focal point at the heart of the historic Rainham Village.

Having pride in the area is so important. I was grateful to the Council recently for reacting so positively to my request for the bench and flooring to be replaced in Bridge Road opposite The Bell, literally yards from the War Memorial. I really believe that taking care of and maintaining our public realm builds local respect for the area and Rainham Village certainly deserves that respect.”
