Labour MP welcomes good news for sports provision as Brittons School to receive grants.
Jon Cruddas Labour MP for Dagenham and Rainham, received good news for sports provision in South Hornchurch last week from the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
Grants totalling £413,219 are to be made available to promote usage of sports facilities at Brittons Academy and the Brettons Outdoor recreation centre. Over £407,000 is to be provided to upgrade the floodlit artificial grass pitch at Brittons Academy with over £4,500 to fund new floodlights at the Brettons Outdoor recreation centre. A further £1,000 is being made available for new goalposts at Brittons Playing Field.
Mr Cruddas commented: “I welcome this announcement, investment in grassroots sport is good for local communities and promoting access and participation in sport and active pastimes is good for physical and mental health.
Over the last decade too many school playing fields and sports pitches in parks have been lost due to funding cuts. This is short term thinking that has long term bad consequences for society and people’s health.”
