Former Debenhams site shut down due to lack of fire safety measures.
Many mattresses found on the floor of one level.
The former Debenhams site in Romford Market was yesterday visited by London Fire Brigade following concerns after a fire broke out during the week. Officers have issued a Section 31 notice as it is believed there were no safety measures whatsoever in the building.
The Section 31 notice means no one is to enter the premises unless making changes to the building in accordance to the fire safety regulations.
It is believed the top floor of the building was being used as place of worship and that on another level of the building many mattresses were found on the floor.
Police have cordoned off the building.
We are awaiting further lines from the London Fire Brigade.
