Have Havering Conservatives turned their back on Romford?

Today, the Havering Residents Association writes in the Havering Daily.

At the recent Budget setting meeting, Romford Conservatives refused to support the improvement of Romford, despite the decline of the Town over a number of years.

Residents have raised concerns over the market and crime which Havering Residents Association agreed with.

The proposed Romford Masterplan is intended to attract inward investment, more green spaces and a better environment for residents. It is therefore questionable why anyone would not support the improvement of the boroughs major town.

Councillor Graham Williamson said “Romford faces endemic problems that have been with us for a few years now and has been in a process of managed decline. The Masterplan is designed however to up-grade the town including the Market, and make it once again an attractive place to work, shop and play”.

The Conservatives also challenged the SEND budget proposals which would mean ignoring the recent public consultation and residents personal choices.

The proposed budget savings around school transport are not to stop parents from having personal choice.

Savings will come from more opportunities to have an education within borough and to procure better contracts including block contracts rather than the current adhoc offer.

Councillor Oscar Ford said “It is disappointing that the Conservatives are playing politics with such a sensitive matter. Families should not be made to feel like a burden, we know the day to day challenges they face and we genuinely want them to feel they are supported. Let’s stop these antics and work together to ensure we improve the boroughs SEND offer, increase the amount of school places within the borough, and focus on the whole SEND system, working with families to see what needs to change and how we can make those changes for the better.”
