Labour PPC works with Havering Council to repair issues at Rainham Village.
Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham has given her thanks to Havering Council for responding quickly to an issue in Rainham Village.
Margaret told the Havering Daily: “Members of my local Labour team noticed dilapidated area off Bridge Road in Rainham Village opposite The Bell. The bench was in a terrible state and the flooring was a hazard for pedestrians as it is covered in moss and slippery to walk on, especially when it has been raining. My concern was it would be only a matter of time before someone really hurts themselves in a fall at this location.”
Havering Council was contacted immediately and this week Margaret was informed that the site has been inspected and anorder has been raised to replace the old and damaged bench with two new benches on Bridge Road opposite The Bell.
The Council went on to advise that wooden blocks which are coming away at the location are part of the old revetment, a retaining structure, but over time with the vegetation in place, the bank is holding up on itself now. The response from the Council added that Grounds Maintenance will remove any that are loose on the floor and will also give the pavement a thorough clean.
Margaret added: “As well as making sure that pedestrians, particularly older people, are safe from falls, it’s vital that we can take real pride in our town centres. The heart of Rainham Village is a special and historic place. I give my praise to Havering Council for its speedy response to my request. I greatly look forward to the works being completed.”
