‘Why don’t you tackle knife crime instead of removing harmless items’

On Tuesday 20 February, Safer Neighbourhood officers executed a drugs warrant at a commercial unit on Selina’s Lane in Dagenham. As a result of this warrant, a man was arrested at the property and numerous firearms were recovered.

Comments have since been received that these are not real guns, fake guns, everyone can see they aren’t real, just the police trying to big themselves up, why don’t they tackle knife crime instead of going after fake guns?

So the answer is then-if one is pointed at you- you are then going to challenge the owner and laugh in his face, or even better take it off the owner and then laugh in his face? Is that your answer?

Could it be that these weapons would actually intimidate most people who in the moment of panic, cannot actually tell if they are real or not? Surely their removal from a unit that had a drugs warrant used on its premises, benefits our community?

If the police had not removed these weapons and they were then used in a criminal activity, our community would have another incident of criminality and people would be complaining at the lack of work by the police.

These are weapons that are not needed in our community. In this case they were there as a form of criminality and intimidation.

Ultimately this was a drugs warrant executed and as such their removal by our police officers has been greatly appreciated by the majority of our community.

Knife crime is an ongoing horror that cannot be aimed solely at the police. It is actually, our frontline officers that are always the first on scene to provide emergency first aid to the victims. Tackling knife crime needs a whole community approach.

For those who relish in endless criticism of our police officers-ask your yourself this-Have you spoken out against knife crime? Have you supported your community?
