‘It is up to us as parents and as a community to stand together. It is not about race or colour, it is about our community and supporting our children.’

“I know what it’s like to lose a son to knife crime, I can tell you all about the pain of having to bury your teenage son. Please Havering community, stand united now and stop our borough from becoming worse and worse.” These were the emotive words of Peguy Kato whose son Champion Ganda was murdered in 2013. “For parents out there fearing for their children everyday, come out and make your voices heard against these horrors. Do not let Havering become like London. London is out of control, the madness there is terrible.

“I moved to Havering because I thought it was a safe borough. I thought this was a good place to raise my children and now I am reading about stabbings taking place every week. East London is coming to Havering and we, as parents must all stand together and speak out against this now while there is still hope.”

Peguy runs All Champion’s Charity in memory of her son Champion and spends her time organising community events for our youth to come together and talk about their fears and worries. However, she fears for Havering as the borough has been less than friendly when it comes to having talks about knife crime.

“I have done workshops across Newham and Barking and Dagenham, the schools there are very welcoming and happy to have talks against knife crime. Here in Havering nobody wants to hear the reality. Schools are not welcoming and the council are not interested in the anti knife crime work I am doing. Yet knife crime is increasing we can all see that. Last week just near my house, two people were stabbed. If we do not act now, this borough will see the madness London sees everyday and then more parents will have knife crime knocking on their door and then it is too late. I don’t want any other family to go through the pain myself and my family go through. This pain does not go away. We don’t wake up and say we have moved on. We live with the memory of our children in our heart for the rest of our lives.”

Peguy is urging Havering parents to gather together and stand united against this knife crime epidemic, making their voices heard.

“It is vital parents speak out against these horrors. We must unite as a community. Attacks on our children are taking place everyday. Our children are growing up scared. Scared to have nice clothes or phones, scared of being mugged or attacked at knife point. Their childhood is blighted by the horror of knife crime everyday. Is this the future we want for our children? It is obvious that no one wants to do anything about knife crime, we can all see that. We have begged and pleaded with all those in authority and yet here we are, 2024 and nothing is being done. It is up to us as parents and as a community to stand together. It is not about race or colour, it is about our community and supporting our children.

“Please Havering, join me in this battle against knife crime.”
